Most likely produced not later than 1962 when a new production hall was built or 1963 in German Democratic Republic, when Weimar Porzellan (then a V.E.B. meaning “people’s own company”), introduced new electro-cobalt furnaces.
Adorned with a beautiful cobalt blue floral pattern, the set is composed of four tea/coffee cups with saucers and a creamer/milk jug, just right for an afternoon get together with your friends.
Producing porcelain since 1790, Weimar Porzellan had a tumultuous history, and since the end of WWII until the fall of the Berlin Wall, it was a state-owned enterprise. As it was integrated with Kahla - another porcelain and ceramic producer -, the company lost its independence and the artistic creativity suffered mainly because the artistic style was adjusted to serve the tastes of Eastern export markets.
This meant a returns for classical forms and patterns - see Weimar`s other collections that look positively baroque - in order not to lose those markets. So, in many ways these pieces represent a file in contemporary history, standing for more than just a beautiful design but also marking the new era in which porcelain design entered under the Iron Curtain.
Kindly note that one of the cups has some granulation on the inside from production, otherwise they’re in excellent condition. Please check all pictures.
