Rare Edelstein Bavaria Art Deco breakfast set (early 1930)

Rare porcelain trio produced by Edelstein Bavaria during early 1930s, most likely before the start of WWII, decorated with a lovely hand painted Art Deco rounded line pattern, an embossed design, in the same fashion, and a colloidal gold rim. What makes this set stand out is the perky use of ochre-yellow, resembling the peach/pear tones from Caravaggio’s “Boy with a Basket of Fruit” (1593), one of his very first works. That very colour was very much in vogue during 1930s and had a massive revival during 1960s, alongside orange, green and gold.

This set is a lovely piece to have in your home, both due to the design and the new age looking shape of the teacup, resembling a lot more a shape that in the years to come would become more and more used. One explanation for the more robust shape of the teacup, as compared to the wider ones specific to that timeframe, is related to the lifestyle changes that would occur, people would be more in a rush (due to war, industrialisation, women into workforce), with little to no time to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee as they used to. And again, since very few fortunate of us actually have time for a breakfast every morning, as per the initial functionality of this set, it can still be a great addition to your weekend routine or for a cake and coffee/tea break.

All pieces are in great condition, with the small saucer plate having one barely noticeable chip on the rim (kindly check last picture).
