Round porcelain tureen produced by PMR (Porzellanfabrik Marktredwitz) Bavaria, Jaeger & Co., in Germany during late 1940s (starting with 1949), early 1950s.
Traditionally used for serving soup and other liquid-based recipes, tureens usually have an oval or round shape, a wide opening and a deep interior, making it easy to dip a ladle or a serving spoon either for serving or mixing the content.
Now, after an almost technical description, we feel like this would extensively limit its use in modern days, so we thought we would come up with some other uses. The tureen can also be used for dips or appetisers when accommodating a large group of people, it would also be great for stews and other hearty warm autumn dishes, pasta or side dishes such as vegetables, be it roasted or sautéed. So, regardless of your choice of serving, using a tureen has that one great advantage for it can be passes around the table rather easily whilst keeping the food warm for longer.
With a pristine colloidal gold, in spite of its age, and a rather modern equilateral triangle pattern, rounded on the 60 degrees angles, this translates some of the decades` trends, take Albert Einstein’s publication of the ‘On the Generalized Theory of Gravitation’ in 1950, or the space exploration starting with the 1957 USSR`s launch of the Sputnik, all wrapped up in the atomic age blanket. And as it has always been the case, what was happening at a macro level in the world was also translated into design and that into day-to-day objects inspiration, this tureen being a true embodiment of that.
This is an amazing piece to add to your dinner table and with a simple design but coming from a very information abundant age, besides making your meals more shareable, this is also a great conversation starter.
