Super Rare French Antique XIX century Faïance Small Platter with Triple Inner Handles (France, 1890s)

Produced sometime at the end of the XIX century in France, this is the sort of piece that stands out due to its rarity on the market inasmuch as design and age. Made out of faïance and hand painted according to traditional colour spraying techniques, the platter is an artefact of bygone times and an unique piece to have in your dinnerware collection.

Slightly rounded on the edges, almost looking like a flattened out bowl, adorned with handles resembling the top of a Ionic column, with a realistic looking daffodil pattern on the middle and a bright yellow rim, this piece really speaks French - and I’m gonna tell you why.

The daffodil or narcissus abscissus is a species of the genus Narcissus and it is native the Pyrenees region in France. Daffodils are one of the first flowering plants of spring and they thus deeply rooted in meanings such as rebirth and new beginnings, representing also for the French a sign of good fortune and hope - as long as they are offered more than one, otherwise it is thought to bring misfortune. Luckily the platter features three daffodils so this should mean nothing but a good and positive feeling.

The platter is in great condition given its age, with some minor paint missing on the bottom of two leafs and the glazing cracked, but that’s not an issue in terms of using it, as this usually happens due to the aging.
