Founded at the beginning of the 19th century, back when Queen Victoria was still very much enjoying her adolescence and still waiting for Albert, the Price & Kensington story started in Burslem - of the six towns that along with Hanley, Tunstall, Fenton, Longton and Stoke-upon-Trent form part of the city of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire.

It all came together when the innovative Price Brothers founded their earthenware manufacturing company specialising in tabletop accessories and teapots. Soon after, they became renowned for their designs and creative approach, just as the world was entering the Victorian era - as soon as Victoria became Queen.

And, as one does, whilst doing their thing, these uber cool brothers built a strong bond with Kensington Potteries who at the time, specialised in novelty teapots. Following the natural course,  they eventually merged in 1962 and that’s how they became Price & Kensington.

Just after their merger, they released this “Piraeus” Collection, looking positively mid-century, but drawing inspiration from Ancient Greece. What’s great about this piece, besides its rarity, is that P&K came up with this statement piece in a time when they were mainly focused on producing pottery teapots shaped like cottages - it was a vibe back then!

Anyways, with an already “vintigized” aspect given by the intertwined colours - that dark and light brown with ochre - and the design with Grecian motifs/shapes, this piece would look specular as a vase or simply displayed on the shelf, especially if you’re really into collecting or starting a collection of rare pottery.
