Produced in Bavaria between 1931 and 1945, this is amongst those rare surviving pieces that Mitterteich launched back then. With a wonderful curved shape on the rim, adorned with colloidal gold details and those hand painted blue flowers - both on the body and lid -, a one of kind knob mimicking the shape of the tureen and an embossed lace like delicate foot, this is the sort of piece that can make anything you might serve from it, well, special.
To give you some insights into that shade of blue, during 1930s, after the Great Depression the entire colour scheme suffered a major change, they were much more toned down, a little more sumbre to reflect the general feel of the society, and so there was a rise in the use of blue - both light and dark - pale greens, beige, browns and anything that would go with black. This applied to interior design, fashion, cars, children toys and porcelain obviously.
The piece is in great condition, with some minor fading of the colloidal gold through and through [kindly check all photos], but nevertheless it can be a fantastic addition to your dinner table. Whether you use it for serving veggies, soup or any sort of food you might fancy, or use it as a decorative piece or repurpose it [please don’t use it as a flower pot, it really damages the porcelain], it’s just super versatile and elegant.
