Rare Vintage Crystal Villeroy & Boch Bel Canto Collection Coupe Champagne Glasses (Germany, 1986 - 1989)

Set of 4 crystal champagne coupe glasses produced by Villeroy & Boch during this very limited timeframe, from 1986 till 1989, as part of their porcelain and crystal Bel Canto Collection, inspired by soft and flowing shapes, transposed into pastel colours (for the porcelain collection) and a super sleek design. The pattern is etched onto the body and is adorned with a beautiful stem featuring a bobble at the bottom, taking on the quadrilateral shape of the leg.

Resembling a lot the glass designs from the 1950s to 1970s, they really actually just capture the 1980s colour trends - lots of variations of pastel -, with these gentle, muted tones acting as a soothing counterbalance to the very much aggressive neon, bold and sharp colours that were part of the popular culture (fashion, music, architecture). Also, thinking that during that period Memphis Group was all the rage and their inspired patterns and prints were extremely popular, pastels were representing some sort of parallel “pastel paradise” with lots of teal, rose, peach, seafood green. Actually, this is a rather great phenomenon to watch, as the palette is so closely linked with the shapes and patterns adjoined.

Anyhow, regardless of their 1980s provenance, these coupe champagne glasses have that atemporal je ne sais quoi that make them seem today years old, looking great in any sort of context, so whether you have a super minimalistic modern interior styling or you go for a more curated throughout the ages vibe, they would look just spectacular anywhere.
