Set of 10 porcelain plates by Thomas (Rosenthal Group) from the 1980s, with an circular pattern resembling the Op Art designs from the 1960s, but much more minimalistic. As these were produced during 1980s mean they are dishwasher and microwave safe, being made out of a thicker and rather heavy porcelain, great for any modern kitchen.
Launched in 1983, the collection is called Trend and it was marked as one of the Groups greatest successes, standing for quality porcelain, simple and functional design. Featuring concentric rings under the glaze with a smooth surface, creating a very aesthetically pleasing effect, this was actually so iconic that the Trend Collection is featured in the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in South Kensington.
If you are not keen on having a whole 24-36 pieces dinner set and you’re cupboards are already packed and you’re lacking space, then having this small, mixed use set would come as a blessing, without actually having to borrow them from V&A.
The set contains 6 deep soup/rice/pasta plates, 3 desert/appetiser plates and 1 small fruit plate, however they can obviously be used for serving anything that might suit both your food preferences and your mealtime habits.
All plates are in excellent condition and might show some fine cutlery lines, most likely due to use, but those small imperfections give that extra character and authenticity.
