Set of 6 washed white/buttery faïence antique dessert plates with a dark brown rose pattern and an embossed delicate lace-like design on the rim, produced by Digoin Sarreguemines (France) early 1940s, as part of the Clovis Collection.

Between the 1920s and 1940s shades of brown were very much a vibe, especially due to the Art Deco movement where taupes and creams were part of the general aesthetic. It was during this era that light, washed-out browns were praised as elegant, luxurious, and comforting and these plates definitely adhere to that depiction.

It is unclear whether they were produced before or after the factory was seized by Germany from 1942 until 1945, during which it was under the management of Villeroy & Boch, but Sarreguemines definitely has a rich history dating back to 1790 and becoming was one of the main French producers of earthenware, vases, decorative flower pots, wall frescos and even chimneys, operating until 2002 when all production was resumed.

All plates are in good condition and due to their age they have a time patina as shown in individual pictures. They do not have any chips or cracks, besides some small yellowy under the glaze stains, most likely due to use, but those small imperfections give that extra character and authenticity.

They are a lovely addition to your kitchen cabinet, great for desserts or appetisers, whilst giving your dinner table that French countryside twist.
