Produced by Bormioli in the Province of Parma during early 1960s, just after Bormioli built their very first machines to create tempered glass products. This mint green set is most likely part of the first collections that came out of the factory, joining in beauty the 1970s glass collections featured in colours like amber, cobalt blue or green.
The Bormioli family has been into the glass making industry for 25 generations, after in the 1500s there emigrated from Northern France to Altare (near Genoa) and they changed their name from Borniolle to Bormioli - this was actually common practice for many people that moved to another country in order to “naturalise” themselves faster and blend in with the locals, especially if you were into any sort of business.
When the University of Glass (Altare) was abolished Luigi Bormioli and his family moved to Fidenza in 1825 , a lovely city just 30 km from Parma, and Bormioli Rocco started off again by producing glassware and plastic containers for home use as well as pharmaceutical containers.
By 1903, Luigi`s children moved the glass factory to San Leonardo (25 km from Udine or 60 to Trieste), and produced glass bottles for perfumeries, pharmacies and household items. Fast-forward to 1946, a new factory was founded and by 1952 Luigi became specialised in the production of cosmetics and perfumery for the Italian market. In 1961, right about when this mint green set was produced, the company inaugurated their cutting edge laboratory, pioneering a new range of colour glassware.
The set is composed out of two large serving plates, six regular sized plates, two large bowls and six smaller bowls and they would be a great addition for your kitchen and meal time routine.
The large plates can be used for putting together breakfast or snack platters, whilst also using the larger bowls for serving salad, couscous, rice or anything you might fancy, and then you have the six regular sized plates for serving, and the smaller bowls great for cereal, ice cream, soups or fruit salads.
Kindly note that one of the small bowls has a small chipping on the inwards rim, it’s not really that visible but still we ask you to check all pictures.
